My submission to the Committee is simple from my point of view:-
To develop the Irish agriculture and food over the decade workers will have to have a fair share of the wealth created. Low wages does not bring young people into the industry, bad work conditions do not as well. In the Agenda 2000 debate and proposal afterwards I did not see any thing aimed to help workers in the dairy industry. No grants to help training, no increase’s in basic wages no reference to help workers setting up their own enterprise’s. The greatest resource for any industry is its workers and, for any strategy to work, it must be invested in them.
